STEM Program Information:
STEM education is defined as an integrated curriculum that is driven by problem solving, discovery, exploratory project/problem-based learning, and student-centered development of ideas and solutions.
All schools in our district are implementing STEM activities and lessons, focusing on the engineering design process.
STEM Competitive Teams:
Every elementary school has a team, and Monroe County Middle School has a Varsity and a Junior Varsity team. The teams compete in First Lego League Robotics tournaments. Students are judged in 4 areas: Robot Design,Robot Programming, Teamwork, and a Community Project.
Our elementary and middle schools also compete in Science Olympiad competitions. Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets; they consist of a series of team events which are rotated to reflect the nature of earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. Elementary Science Olympiad also contains a Math 24 Tournament.

Foundations of energy and engineering students love experimenting with Makey Makeys to explore concepts such as circuitry, game design, and computer programming. This is a great example of student-led innovation in Monroe County Schools.
